Part of the LUMINA SERIES—metal and glass wall sculptures that appear to be illuminated due to the use of a special reflective glass. The focus of each piece is a central image molded in the glass, then set into a 1.75" deep niche lined in silver or gold.

This is an example of what Sheryl calls STORYBOARDS, influenced by the West African (Bamana people of Mali) tradition of Bogolanfini (Mud Cloth). In this tradition, social stories are conveyed through symbolic patterns "painted in mud" onto thin strips of cloth. These individual strips are then sewn together to create large pieces that often recount important historical events or tell moral or social lessons.
Like the Bogolanfini, STORYBOARDS are also composed of strips of symbolic images intended to be "read" by the viewer. While some STORYBOARDS have a more obvious African influence, all rely on potent universal symbols to tell their story.
STORYBOARDS are mounted on black wood panels, ready to hang.
